About Saskatchewan
Known for its expansive parks and informative museums, Saskatchewan is the ideal place to experience the heart of Canada. Make the most of your trip by booking your choice of Saskatchewan cabins and exploring this prairie province's history and natural beauty.
Saskatchewan Climate
As the sunniest Canadian province, Saskatchewan is a pleasure to visit in any season. Its humid continental climate means that it has four distinct seasons, with generally warm summers and cold winters. Keep in mind that temperatures can vary somewhat from the province's northern towns to its southern cities. In general, summer temperatures typically reach about 80 degrees, while winter temperatures rarely top 15 degrees. Summer tends to be the rainy season in Saskatchewan, while late spring brings tornado season.
How to Get Around Saskatchewan
Depending on where you plan to spend your time in Saskatchewan, you'll want to fly into either Regina International Airport in southern Regina or Saskatoon International Airport in central Saskatoon. If you're planning to stay at one of the more northern Saskatchewan cabins, consider chartering a flight into La Ronge (Barber Field) Airport or even Cree Lake (Crystal Lodge) Airport. Since Saskatchewan covers over 250,000 square miles, you'll want to drive as you explore the province. Though Saskatoon and Regina feature walkable areas, a car will help you cover the long distances between cities and major attractions.
Best Things to Do in Saskatchewan
Bring the wilderness of Saskatchewan closer to you with an adventure in Prince Albert National Park. Located near scenic Waskesiu, this national park offers some of the province's best canoeing, waterskiing, and hiking. In Saskatoon, visit the Beaver Creek Conservation area, where you can experience and learn about the grasslands and the resident wildlife on peaceful walking trails. Head indoors to the Western Development Museum in either Saskatoon or Moose Jaw. Both museums offer a look back in time with exhibits detailing the history of transit and other aspects of Canadian life in the 19th and 20th centuries. In Regina, go to the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, which highlights the province's natural history.
Can't Miss Saskatchewan Events
If your visit falls during the spring, summer, or fall, you're bound to find a festival that piques your interest. Spring brings Saskatchewan Fashion Week to Regina, where you can see dozens of Canadian designers showcasing their skills and retailers selling local wares. In July, join thousands of extended family members at the Ness Creek Music Festival in Big River for countless live music performances interwoven with numerous environmental and cultural activities. For some of the best live music you'll hear, go to the Regina Folk Festival in midsummer. For an entire weekend, you can hear a range of folk styles, catch some free concerts during the day, and attend workshops. Also in midsummer, don't miss the Standing Buffalo First Nation Powwow, one of the province's largest powwows that's held in Fort Qu'Appelle every year.
