A married couple, we prefer to take more trips and stay in cheaper places/eat at cheaper restaurants to do so. Taste and caloric content of food is more important to us than presentation or atmosphere in a restaurant.
In a hotel, we are not willing to tolerate: unsafe locations, dirty hotels, malfunctioning heat or A/C, signficant noise from other guests, bedbugs. (On the other hand, worn or dated furnishings are fine -- we do not expect or pay for the Ritz.)
In a restaurant, we are not willing to tolerate: bad food, long lines, dirty restrooms, pretentious waitstaff or unexcused delays in service.
Prefer elevators, due to arthritis issues.
Not afraid to use coupons or ask for discounts.
We always leave tips and post positive reviews to reward exceptional service.
We almost always check Trip Advisor reviews before we visit a new area, and have found the travel comments to be very insightful.
